When do you shop for a wedding dress?

This is a good question that most brides should be asking as soon as she gets engaged.

Why? Because for most part, the color and style of the dress she chooses will set the tone of the wedding color schemes and theme of the party and/or venue.

We have seen brides shop as early as a year in advance to get an idea of what style of dress they would look great in, especially if they do not have any clue yet as to what color and silhouette is best for them. Otherwise, for those who already knew that they are the marrying type they usually have a dress in mind and it becomes a quest to find that dream wedding gown of theirs. Either one should really get serious in purchasing their dress eight months prior to their wedding date, if time allows.

Why? Because if a bride needs to custom-make or special order her gown, depending on which manufacturer she orders it from, that gown might take three to six months to arrive. The seventh month will give her time to make any alterations if needed or allowance for any unforeseen incidents to make adjustments. For month of the wedding or at the latest, one week before her wedding day, her alterations should be done and should be set for the big day!

One thing we do not suggest a bride should do, is to purchase all the accessories and the wedding party’s outfits before her own wedding gown. This will be financially and/or emotionally devastating! Imagine, having done this and when you finally order or purchase your own dress, the dress is no longer available or could not be shipped in time for your wedding day. This is definitely, emotionally devastating!

I don’t know if this one is worse than the other, but to purchase a gown that is not your first choice and end up changing color schemes and theme of the wedding after the fact, is financially devastating!

Either way, give yourself enough time to look for that ideal dress and have a budget that is affordable and reasonable for the type of gown you are looking to purchase.

Some Places to have your Maui Wedding.

Published by DJSMOOK on June 12th, 2010 - in Maui Formal Wear

I have been asked this a number of times and where people tend to have their Maui Weddings. You can have them anywhere on the island. People usually have them at hotels and condos. To save you money I suggest having your Maui Wedding at a local beach like Makena State Park or at Hana Bay. I also recommend reserving the Sugar Cane Train for your wedding. Hope this helps you and remember to always contact us here at Lamour Bridal Boutique for any questions you may have. A Hui Hou!

How To Avoid Paying Additional Fees

Year after year we see couples who come in for last minute wedding planning and shopping. Whether they were eloping, did not have the money to pay early on or just simply a “procrastinator”. Whatever the reason for shopping late, the latter is what you do not want to practice or make into a habit of doing to avoid the following consequences.

Rush Cut Fee – when you are coming in to place a special order at a last minute fashion, you are most likely to pay this additional fee to get your order in on time for the event.

Rush Delivery Fee – in addition to rush cut fee, you might have to pay extra shipping fee to expedite your order. This will prioritize your order to ship out from the factory warehouse.

Rush Alteration Fee – “time is of the essence”. When you need your gown or dress within days prior to event date and you still have to send it for some adjustments, you should expect to pay a rush alteration fee in addition to your regular alteration rate.

Late Processing Fee – some companies do charge a certain percentage on late rental order(s). If you are planning or have a feeling of attending an event, shop early and ask what is the latest date they will take an order without charging you this extra fee.

Super Rush Fee – this fee is by far the most expensive! Depending on how reputable the company you are dealing with, rate varies on how late you are placing your order. This is sometimes added depending on how your situation desperately needs it in addition to the previous varied fees mentioned above.

In summation, we recommend that you plan and shop ahead to stay on top of your game!
