Would you color match or color coordinate?

Color schemes and themes are always a major factor and topic when preparing for an event or a wedding party.

Questions to ask include ones such as:  What is the color backdrop at the venue? How about accent colors? What about the colors of table covers and chairs? Should the linen colors match or be contrasting? Will you color match or color coordinate the wedding party’s outfit?

Preparing an event is sometimes stressful and it can get overwhelming or feel out of control. To avoid these situations and if budget allows, some people hire wedding coordinators.  Some get help from relatives and friends. Either way is great. Although, when it comes to outfitting your wedding party, consulting a wardrobe specialist is very important because of the obvious reasons.

A wardrobe specialist is someone who is very knowledgeable about the different patterns, textures and types of fabrics. She is familiar with the variety of styles and fashions that will work well (or not) on certain body silhouettes. A well-trained wardrobe specialist will also be able to tell you whether certain colors will be complimentary to your skin and hair color, or not.

Between color matching and color coordinating, the latter is the easier way to go.  To gain understanding, it helps to look at how a textile factory works. Fabrics are dyed in a certain amount of batches and usually come in a roll. Each batch might be slightly darker or lighter in hue from the previous batch. Different weaving and textures of fabrics will also affect the hue of dye colors when applied. If the fabric or swatch came from the same roll you are trying to match, then your color matching effort will be successful. Otherwise, color coordinating will be the best way to go.

When color coordinating, the colors do not need to match exactly. As long as the shade of color is within the range of colors you are looking at, whether it is slightly darker or lighter it will be just fine. The texture and pattern can also be different when color coordinating, as long as the color hue stays within that range. A good example of this is the different shades of pink. A bubble gum pink is a lighter shade than a fuchsia pink but is within the same range of the color pink. This should be okay as long as they are not in the same pattern or texture. Imagine a plain satin bubble gum pink dress and a paisley patterned vest & long tie…that is a perfect color coordinating success!

Here at Lamour Bridal Boutique, we have a wardrobe specialist on hand to assist you with this aspect of your event planning.  We will help you choose a color scheme that works best for you and your wedding party or event participants.
